Photo Diary: Sunsets, Concrete & Manchester Through My Window

With the recent extremely confused weather this past month in Manchester - from snow and hail to torrential rain and wind and then to serene clear skies and sunshine - I find myself obsessively capturing the shifting climates. Being the happy snapper that I am, and blessed with an amazing view of Manchester city centre, it really is impossible for me not to immortalise my changing scenery through the handy lens of my iPhone 4. If you follow me on Instagram, or even Twitter, you'll know that I am especially fond of sunset snaps and you're probably tired of seeing them by now. But sunsets really are lovely, specifically the ones in February, where the sun sets later in the day at dusk. But enough of me babbling on about skies and sunsets, I'll let the pictures take over from here. Enjoy!

Snow, snow, snow.

Literally less than an hour after the snow picture above was taken: sunshine and a clear sky!

Sunset again.

This was taken a few days ago. I was so tired and was in bed about to snooze away till I saw the sun peeking through and had to take a picture. I was too tired to walk a few steps to the window (yes I know, I'm lazy) and decided to take it from where I was. It somehow worked and I love how it turned out.

Took this about half an hour ago. It was a lovely day today :)

It's incredible how these pictures are all of the same view, yet each one is very different and it all comes down to the weather!

As I said before, all the pictures were taken with an iPhone 4 and most of them were edited using Instagram or Camera+.

Eco-Bag of the Day: The 'I Love MCR' Tote

This has got to be one of my favourite eco-bags! It's part of the 'I love MCR' campaign that launched after the horrible riots that took place in the city this past August, with sales of the official campaign merchandise supporting Forever Manchester and Reclaim.

Photo Diary: Christmas in Manchester

It's been a long morning, and I barely slept last night, so I'm pretty exhausted at the moment. But anyway, going through my picture gallery on my phone, I thought why not do a short and sweet Photo Diary of Christmas in Manchester. November and December are always the coldest months of the year, and so it tends to be very gloomy here in MCR. But during the last two weeks of November, the Xmas Market opens and instantly the city is lit up with beautiful lights and gorgeous Christmas decorations! The award-winning market has got to be one of my favourite things about the city. I absolutely adore seeing everyone out enjoying their time and flocking towards the German market to get their hands on some delicious hot chocolate or some pancakes or waffles. Here are some snaps from my phone (excuse the not-so-great picture quality) from the last couple of weeks:

Just Another Thing To Do in Manchester

The most obvious thing to do in this city? Watch a Manchester United game live at Old Trafford! Better yet? A Manchester United vs. Arsenal game live!!! Ironically, Alyazia happens to be a Man Utd supporter while I am a loyal Arsenal fan. Check out some pics of the game on Saturday.

Even though, to Alyazia's delight, Manchester United won, it was still an amazing experience. Very exciting and the atmosphere was electrifying, especially when they scored... Yet another memory to cherish! :)

Green Eve Around Manchester

Hey guys! It's Anoud & Alyazia. So here's the story... Today we went down to the city centre after class since the weather was sunny, but very cold won't lie. Then, our usual hyperness kicked in and we decided to take random videos and show you guys around Manchester. I hope we won't regret this post but oh well this is us! Sorry for some parts of the video where you can barely hear us, but it was so windy, as you'll clearly see! So here goes, hope you enjoy :p

A Day in Manchester

I absolutely love Manchester during the holiday season. From the Christmas market and the street decorations, to the wonderful atmosphere, it is so beautiful and people are all out and about despite the extreme cold. Today me and Jazi went to do some last minute shopping before heading back home in a few days (eeek!!), and thankfully I had my camera stashed somewhere in  my bag. We went to Market Street and Piccadilly Gardens, and then decided to check out the 'greenest office building in Manchester' and show it to you all. So here we go:


Ok first off, as we were walking through Market Street, we spotted a little stand with very disturbing pictures of tortured animals and a sign that said 'Sign the Petition'. After asking about the cause and reading about the horrible stories, we immediately signed it. Basically it is a petition to call on the Home Secretary to close down the Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) animal testing lab. It is Europe's largest and has 70,000 animals imprisoned with experiments on horses, donkeys and deer. How horrible is it that EVERYDAY 500 animals die inside HLS? So please, if you are living in Manchester,  make sure you head down to Market Street and sign the petition! And for everyone else, please check out their facebook group here. Unfortunately, their online petition has now closed, but do check out the support it got and other animal-related petitions here.

And finally, introducing Manchester's greenest building: The Number One First Street

Below is the Number One building, which is part of the 20-acre First Street scheme that is aimed at extending the heart of Manchester city!  The project is going to transform Manchester city centre with modern and GREEN boulevards that cater to residents, employees, and visitors as well.

On June 1, 2010 Manchester City Council relocated to Number One.

The Number One building & behind it home, Parkway Gate :)
