Green Tip of the Day: Get Yourself a Disposable Car Trash Bag

It's a sad thing to admit, but many drivers have the tendency to carelessly throw litter from their cars onto the streets, leading to roadside pollution.Even if you don't have this habit (thankfully), then I'm sure it gets annoying how much random litter can gather in your car, and let's be honest here, the small ashtray is not enough to hold the used tissues or snack wrappers.  That is why, it important to invest in a disposable car trash bag. It is cleaner, greener and much more practical. Also, let's not forget that disposable trash bags in cars will most definitely reduce the amount of waste on the roads, leading to a healthier street environment for all.

Below is the disposable car trash bag that I use for the house cars. It is the Be Clean Disposable Car Trash Bag, and it can be purchased at Cozmo for 1.250 JD with 3 trash bags in each pack.

The different options for attaching the trash bag to the interior of the car.

How the Be Clean disposable trash bag looks like once out of the pack.

I prefer attaching the bag to the glove compartment... It's the most practical option!
Here's another less practical, but still possible option of attaching the bag to the gear shift.

I found another very useful car trash bag with disposable liners on Amazon. Check it out here.

Hope you all consider this tip and start greening your not so eco-friendly cars with a disposable trash bag!

Green Tip of the Day

Walk as much as you can.

Even though it's cold outside, try to walk as much as you can instead of using your car. It's a nice way to explore the city and the street life and it's a healthy routine and a great way to exercise! I walk everyday to classes as mostly all students do in Manchester, but when I need to go to the city centre I also do sometimes walk, but only if it's not too cold cause it's quite far. However, I do take a 'low-carbon' shuttle as an alternative way instead of a taxi. Not only is it free, but it stops all over the city centre and is very convenient and clean! But when the weather is nice and not too cold, I surely don't mind walking.

But always make sure to wear many layers and keep warm :)

Green Tip of the Day

Use both sides of a paper!

How simple and direct is this tip? Always aim to decrease your use of paper and take advantage of every bit of it. If you have a printer with the double sided print option then be sure to use it. This will save you half the amount of paper that you usually use. Of course, make sure it really is necessary to print; if there is no need for a hard copy and a soft copy is just as good then simply don't print and save some paper.

P.S. Don't forget to recycle once you're done with the paper :)

Love,

Anoud

Green Tip of the Day

Purchase Organic foods!!!
Organic foods are not only better for you, but they are better for the environment too! They are grown naturally and they avoid the use of pesticides which are harmful to the environment. Organic foods are also very healthy as they contain 50% more of nutrients, vitamins and minerals than produce that has been intensively farmed.

Yes, it may be more costly, however, take into consideration that you will be doing yourself more good than harm if you purchase organic foods, such as fruits and vegetables more often. The food tastes fresh and much better as there are no chemicals or hormones used to produce them, which tend to destroy the taste!

In Dubai, we have a great organic supermarket called "Organic Foods and Café" (http://www.organicfoodsandcafe.com/index.php) that not only sells organic and biodynamic food, but products like cosmetics, baby items and household cleaning products that are organic, too! There are a number of outlets that can be found around Dubai, and "the Organic Foods and Café is the only certified organic outlet in the Middle East and largest supplier of organic products in the world."

So, find out if you have an organic supermarket in your city or country and try to start investing more in purchasing more organic produce. The result will be a healthier you and a healthier environment!

Green Tip of the Day

Shop online!!!

Although this may seem very out of topic, shopping online can actually help the environment! I personally find this to be very interesting because during holiday seasons, like christmas which is coming up very soon, the stores are completely packed with people. This causes heavy congestion in the stores and on the roads, and it also generates a lot of rubbish.

Therefore, by shopping online, not only are you saving yourself time, but you're also saving fuel from travelling to different stores in your car. This tip is especially useful if you'd be driving to stores located in different areas.

Shopping online has never been easier or more popular with amazing online stores like Asos (http://www.asos.com/). It is the UK's biggest online-only store for beauty and fashion. The website shows many of the latest trends in fashion for both men and women, from clothes to accessories, allowing you to discover fashion online. What I also love about the website is that for example, if I find a dress that I like, but I'm not sure how it would look when it is actually worn, they have a photo of a model wearing it, and sometimes a video of the dress being modeled on the catwalk! This makes it even more fun to shop online! And they don't only do this for clothes, but for some accessories such as sunglasses and jewellery, too.

What a great excuse for you to shop online! ;)

Green Tip of the Day

Don't Litter!!!

Maintaining a healthy environment is important for human beings, and it is difficult to do so if we are polluting it. Not only is litter a form of pollution, being visual pollution, but the act of littering itself is unattractive and in turn, makes your country exhibit irresponsibility and lack of concern towards the environment.

Taking care of our environment has to be done by all the citizens of this earth, and not only the municipilaty and their hard workers because it is their "job". It has to be a united effort because this is our duty towards our habitat.

Remember that by littering, you are disrespecting your surroundings and the world we live in.
So, next time think before you throw that gum wrapper or cigarette butt on the floor. It doesn't take much time or much of an effort to walk a few further steps towards the garbage bin. Yes, that wrapper might be the size of your pinky, but small is big when it comes to the environment because every little negative impact matters!

Green Tip of the Day

Recycle as much as you can!

This is one of the most obvious tips to going green. It has never been made easier than now with the emphasis of recycling in many places, not only through providing recycling bins, but also through informing you of what items can be recycled. So, if you ever see the recycling logo on a box, paper bag, bottle, etc... make sure you do recycle it. Also, if you have unwanted items, make good use of them by recycling them.

We are very proud to be part of the University of Manchester because of its emphasis on preserving the environment and the initiatives it takes to promote this cause. Throughout the campus, there are several recycling stations all over, with separate bins for each category of waste: cans, papers, plastic bottles, and general waste as shown below in the pictures.

Green Tip of the Day: Unplug!

Unplug your electrical devices and gadgets when not in use.

This is probably one of the simplest tips to going green. It doesn't take much effort to just simply unplug, or switch the socket off, your electrical devices when not in use. Many people think that, for example, by siwtching the TV off, you are saving energy. However, what many people don't know is that as long as the TV is plugged into the power socket, it is still taking up energy. That is why, if you're not using them, make sure you unplug devices such as your TV, microwave, laptop (PC), cell phone charger,  microwave, and coffee maker. By doing so, you are not only saving 40% of wasted electricity, but you are also saving money on your energy bill and of course saving the Planet.

Go ahead, get going and start unplugging!!!

Green Tip of the Day

Ok a quick post before class: Green tip of the Day! This post will be a regular daily tip on how to become green/greener :)

Tip:

Ditch the paper bills! Nearly all shops and supermarkets here in the UK ask if you require a bill, simply say no if you really don't need it and are going to stuff it somewhere in your wallet! Not only do paperless bills SAVE TREES, but they also save you the clutter! And what's even better is that some companies offer discounts for paying your bills online, saving you money while encouraging you to help save Our Planet in the simplest of ways :)

Hope you consider the environment the next time you pay your bills ;)

Love,

Green Eve
