OAT Shoes: 100% Biodegradable!

Creating and innovating 100% biodegradable products is becoming more and more possible!

In my last post, I blogged about Puma's new fully bidegradable shopping bags, and now it's time to introduce you to the Amsterdam-based label: OAT Shoes. OAT Shoes are not only stylish & comfortable, they are also 100% biodegradable! Yes, biodegradable sneakers!!!

Christiaan Maats, founder of OAT Shoes, took on the challenge of designing & producing decomposable footwear as part of his product design graduation project. Two years of development later, OAT Shoes introduced prototypes of its Virgin Collection. The fantastic collection includes brilliant sneakers made from 'hemp canvas, bio-cotton, cork and certified biodegradable plastic'.

Now, here's the cool part: once you've worn them out or had enough of them (which won't happen anytime soon after you purchase them I'm sure) a pair of Oats can literally be buried in your garden or thrown in a compost pile. The shoes are not just sustainable & practical, they actually look good & are very stylish & easy to wear. I really love the colorful soles, which turn up its style a notch! Need more? Well the hemp canvas is 'naturally antibacterial' & a 'moisture-wicker'. This obviously makes it that much more durable.

The Virgin Collection comes in four styles: two high tops and two low tops. You can purchase the shoes online from the OAT Shoes website for €140-150.

P.S: In January, the company won second prize at the Green Fashion Awards. Much deserved!

Make sure you grab yourselves a pair of Oats!

A Shopping Bag That Dissolves in Water? YES!

This is just great! Innovative, practical & realistic!

Puma recently took a step in the right direction & ditched its plastic shopping bags for a 100% bidegradable alternative made from cornstarch.

The new & improved bags are capable of completely degrading within just 3 months in a home compost pile. However, if shoppers do not have access to a compost pile or are not willing to wait for it to naturally degrade, the bag can also be completely dissovled in water in a matter of minutes! this replacement, according to Puma, will save 293 tons of paper & 192 tons of plastic each year.

Don't believe it? Watch the video below!

It's No Longer About Green: Why We Must Achieve A Blue Economy!

Watch the video below for an excellent explanation of why a 'Blue Economy' is what we need to start aiming for, rather than a green one.

Hmmm, Blue Eve? Why not! lol

What do you think? Does the 'Blue Economy' make more sense? And is it more realistic and benefitial?

Beautiful Creatures: The Lion

Lions

If you know me well, then you probably know how obsessed I am with cats. Big, small, domestic, wild, I like them all! My favourite, though, has got to be the mighty & beautiful lion. The hair, the eyes, the charisma, it all gets to me. I think part of my love for lions is credited to the fact that I am a leo. I' also have big, curly hair that often gets compared to that of the lions. That, for me, is one of the best compliments ever... Well, somehow! Anyways, here is a post completely dedicated to this mesmerising creature.

Im sure you've either heard of Christian the Lion or perhaps even seen the video before. Either way, you need to watch the video below, because I can never get enough. Make sure there are some tissues around though!

How can you not love this beauty?

Recycling With A Vengeance

Recycling made fun! Instead of the usual and maybe rather boring recycling methods, take a look at this new way of recycling: smashing glass bottles as therapy!

Would love to throw a few of those bottles myself....
